Gorgeous Autumn Gardens

As the leaves transform into the russet and amber shades of autumn, the garden features come to the fore. If you haven’t invested in any key ornaments you are missing a trick. These well placed beauties draw the eye and make your natural vista or designed planting scheme a wonderful stage behind them. Read on for our tips.

Transform a Tree Line Into a Vista

Many properties are edged with rows of trees. But these can be transformed from a boundary line to a vibrant vista, especially in autumn. Make the most of the bright display of leaves with a well placed urn and pedestal or statue.

It’s all about drawing the eye to focus on a central point, which creates a sense of proportion. This makes the trees into an organic back drop. When you have a large bank of trees and shrubs, choose one striking feature for a greater impact. Too many items can appear busy and spoil the affect.

Point of View

Where you see your feature ornament is important. Consider the different viewpoints. Where will the ornament be predominantly viewed from? The house or the path? What is the impression you want to make upon the viewer? Is it that wow factor as people arrive on your driveway? Or is it the way you love the light falls at sunset in your garden? All of these things  need to be thought about before you choose the right ornament or feature planter for your outdoor space.

Be True to Your Style

Think about your whole outdoor space. Do you have a period property or a more modern house? A Regency vase will look glorious in the right setting as part of a flamboyantly planted garden design, bursting with seasonal blooms. But maybe a contemporary statue or sleek planter might become a handsome feature in a more modern garden. There are no set rules, but garden ornaments are quite an investment so ensure that you love the one you choose to be the main focal point in your space.

Statues For Smaller Shrub

Whilst urns and pedestals can create a dramatic effect for larger vistas and tree lines, smaller statues can create a more intimate feeling amongst smaller shubs and and borders.

A backdrop of darker foliage will highlight the lighter stone, creating a wonderful contrast in your garden design. This is a classic way to add interest to evergreen hedging. It also works to separate areas of your garden creating the feeling of smaller designed “rooms”. This technique is often used by garden designers to fully utilise your space and add a cosy or intimate feel.

Larger Spaces and Walkways

If you want to guide visitors around your garden why not create a sense of purpose? Wind your way through your garden beds with obelisks ornaments and urns to signpost the way.

This could work for smaller gardens too with wall mounted features and planters with small garden statues to brighten up the overlooked nooks and corners. Sundial plinths and urns can punctuate your path through your planting scheme, making your garden seem larger. This approach makes more of your outdoor space than the traditional lawn.

Attention to Detail

Whilst we can’t control the seasons, we can control the key features in our gardens. Ornate planters and urns come into their own as the leaves change and drop. Our handmade garden urns and planters in classical or romantic styles can command attention, especially when the spring and summer blooms have died down and the leaves are a riot of color.

Traditional garden styles are back and were in full force at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show with a focus on fine detailing in both The Newt’s Roman garden and in swoony flamboyance of Netflix’s Bridgerton Garden.

There’s a reason why traditional gardens are always popular. They capture interest all year round, especially in the colder months. An ornate and decorative urn will become more prominant once the leaves have dropped. When the frost bites, it covers the fine detailing, twinkling in the weak sunlight, for that magical or festive feeling.

Embrace each season and consider the impact on your space as the light and foliage changes througout the year. A beautiful garden ornament can enhance these differences, with elegance and charm.
