Sponsored by Chilstone
This year’s Chelsea Flower Show takes place between the 25th and 29th May and among this year’s exhibition gardens will be a recreation of the childhood garden of the legendary Christian Dior ‘Les Rhumbs’in Granville, Normandy. Sponsored by Chilstone and created by award-winning garden designers Patricia Thirion and Janet Honour of A Touch of France. The garden was the inspiration that turned a small boy into the undisputed leader of the fashion world. Christian Dior’s revolutionary “New Look” collection was an antidote to wartime austerity and the foundation of a global phenomenon.
The central theme of the garden is the delightful and fragrant Lily of the Valley (Muguet) and a key part of the design will be an exclusive vase especially created for the Chelsea display by our craftsmen at Chilstone. The vase, designed by A Touch of France, is individually handmade at Langton Green and has been inspired by Christian Dior’s love of the beautiful and fragrant Lily of the Valley – a recurrent theme in Christian Dior’s life and a feature of this special garden vase.
The garden is a recreation of Les Rhumbs and features a small rectangular pool surrounded by fragrant jasmine, honeysuckle, peony and roses in addition to muguet. The roses, muguet and gardenias reflecting the scent of Miss Dior, Christian Dior’s first perfume and named for his sister, Catherine.
Chilstone of Tunbridge Wells were chosen as the garden’s main sponsor for their long experience of designing and creating, by hand, exclusive stone garden ornaments for some of the world’s most famous gardens including fabulous Kew, Barracura (Japan) and some of the Great Houses of England. The creation of the vase has been specially commissioned by A Touch of France to form a lasting memory of the Christian Dior Garden and the 2010 Chelsea Flower Show.
